Will Sabrina Ionescu’s New Nike Sneaker Be Another Megahit?

Soon after it dropped in March 2023, Sabrina Ionescu’s debut Nike shoe—the Sabrina 1—became one of the most popular signature sneakers in basketball. The performance model was an instant crossover sensation, regularly worn by players across both the WNBA and the NBA. It even popped up on the feet of celebrities on awards show red carpets, a true sign of the shoe’s status as a bona fide mainstream hit.

So it’s no surprise that Ionescu had a sequel coming. Nike recently announced the Sabrina 2, which later this month and seems poised to pick up where its predecessor left off. Another slim, streamlined, Kobe-esque mid-top silhouette, the eye-catching shoe is built for speed and expands on the legacy of an already widely-acclaimed model. Like Ionescu’s New York Liberty teammate Breanna Stewart’s recent Puma Stewie 3, the Sabrina 2 is a successor with as many improvements as there are high expectations. Signature sneakers for WNBA athletes are still a rarity—and follow-ups even more so. The pressure is on.
